Canadian Pacific (CP) Rail’s 23rd annual Holiday Train will be hosted virtually again this year, considering ongoing government restrictions on public gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Airdrie City Council members heard a presentation regarding a new e-commerce platform, as well as a feasibility study regarding the amendment of an animal control bylaw on Dec. 6.

The Airdrie 1st Club, formerly known as the Airdrie Lioness Club, is hosting its annual hamper program this month for those in need and are looking for donations in the form of money, gift cards, gingerbread house kits, and winterwear.

The take-home kits include blank cards and small decorative items to beautify them with. Participants are encouraged to write a cheery holiday message inside the card, and then bring them back to the library by Dec. 16. The library will then take the cards to senior homes in Airdrie to “spread the holiday cheer.”

The annual Christmas market provides kids in Airdrie the opportunity to pick out a gift for each of their parents or guardians. The gifts do not need to be purchased, as they are donated or subsidized by local businesses and organizations.

The Nose Creek Players, an Airdrie-based theatre troupe, are gearing up for their performance of Finding Claus – a holiday-themed whodunnit-style mystery to be performed at the Ladies Out Loud event centre from Dec. 16 to 18.

The Airdrie and District Hospice Society (ADHS) officially launched its Tree of Hope fundraising campaign on Dec. 1, with the ceremonial lighting of the Tree of Hope at City Hall.

Christine Taylor, the events, marketing, and communications manager for the Airdrie Food Bank, said the initiative’s visibility has increased over the last nine years to the point where most people in Airdrie are aware of Mace’s annual turkey drive.

Every month, staff from the Airdrie Public Library send the Airdrie City View a small collection of some of the titles available at the library, along with some short synopses. The titles include both adult fiction and non-fiction selections.  Here is the November submission, showcasing some of the library's books Airdrie readers can enjoy getting lost in this holiday season.
