Airdrie Meal on Wheels Society is hosting its second annual Virtual Christmas Tree Decorating fundraiser this holiday season, aimed at raising money to continue helping locals in need.

Propak Systems, one of Airdrie’s longest standing businesses, commemorates its 45th anniversary this year, having grown from a small family-run company, to the city’s largest employer - boasting 1,100 employees worldwide.

According to the Airdrie and District Hospice Society, the Tree of Hope is lit every Dec. 1 in Nose Creek Regional Park, in memory of those whose lives have been lost, and as a symbol of resilience for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The light-up ceremony is typically on the opening night of the Airdrie Festival of Lights. 

"If you come into our office before Dec 23, you can save even more when you buy three cards for only $75," said Airdrie City View publisher Cam Christianson. "These make for a great stocking stuffer for friends, family and co-workers this holiday season."

A City of Airdrie employee has been named one of the top young innovators in the transportation industry, as part of Mass Transit Magazine’s 13th annual 40 Under 40 competition.

“Community is at the roots of my history, coming from a small town, as it is for the Davis family. Looking at it from Davis Chevrolet perspective, Giving Tuesday is the perfect opportunity for us to show our support to the community that supports us and make sure it stays strong.”

A local farmers market that aims to support small vendors and craftspeople, while bringing the community together, is hosting its annual Christmas show and market on Dec. 4 at the Airdrie Town and Country Centre.

Airdrie RCMP have since cleared the scene at Herons Crossing School following a false alarm of a man wielding a knife outside the school on Nov. 24.
