Airdrie reports 586 active COVID-19 cases, two additional deaths
The 586 cases, as reported on Airdrie.ca, are an increase of more than 500 infections on Dec. 13, 2021, when 69 active infections were reported. In previous waves of the pandemic, Airdrie never experienced more than 400 active cases.

The Airdrie and District Hospice Society (ADHS) is hosting its second annual virtual Humour for Hospice fundraising event on Feb. 12, featuring two stand-up comedy performances. Murder trial for Robert Daignault delayed after COVID-19 exposure at Calgary Remand Centre
The nine-day first-degree murder trial for Daignault was set to begin Jan. 4 at the Calgary Courts Centre. However, upon entering the court room that morning, presiding Justice Robert Hall informed participants that Daignault would not be in attendance, as he and the rest of the inmates in his unit at the Calgary Remand Centre were self-isolating following close exposure to a COVID-19 case.

Chestermere Lake hosts third Western Canada Pond Hockey Championship
The Tim Hortons Western Canada Pond Hockey Championship started in 2018 and is played annually on the Chestermere Lake. The fundraising tournament benefits charitable organizations locally and in the surrounding area. Money raised in 2021 will go to Camp Chestermere and to Synergy, both local and well deserving charities in the City of Chestermere, according to a pond hockey media release on Dec. 27.
