Kyle German went into Showdown Sunday at the Calgary Stampede with his sights on $100,000. Unfortunately for the Crossfield bull rider, the bull he drew, Fig Jam, had other ideas and bucked him off in less than four seconds.

A three-on-three hockey tournament set for mid-August will not only help those trying to fill the midsummer sports void, but also help prepare a group of up to 150 players for the coming hockey season.

Synchronized swimmer Braley Traub’s aquatic coordination has paid off and landed her a spot on Canada’s national junior squad for a second straight year.

The overall winner of the fifth annual Triple Crown Stock Dog Event was Jimmy Walker of Texas with his dog Angie. Walker also took home second in the open with his other dog, Mitch, while Wendy Schmaltz’s dog Gin earned bronze.

The second annual Wild Rose Hockey Challenge was a huge success with Team Alberta taking the title 16-15 in a shootout, July 11 at the Ron Ebbesen Arena in Airdrie.

Thirteen-year-old Robyn Hays will be competing in the Alberta Summer Games in Peace Region, July 19-25.
