The Airdrie Lightning U15 AA are off to a hot start at the 2024 Alberta Female Hockey League provincial championship.

Spencer Bratton and Zach Vinuya, alongside two swimmers from Calgary, Julian Ha and Adrien Chen, took home bronze at the provincial championship in the 13 and under, 200 metre (m) freestyle relay.

The Airdrie Lightning U16 Tier 1 team hosted Okotoks in the second round of league playoffs on March 16 at Ron Ebbesen. Fans packed the stands of the Ron Ebbesen arena for game three of the second round that saw Airdrie fall to Okotoks 5-1.

For many competitive athletes, winning a gold medal is a goal that might never be achieved, despite years and years of sacrifice and hard work. For Airdrie’s Sienna MacDonald, winning gold medals has almost become a hobby.

A club volleyball team based in Airdrie, with players from towns like Crossfield, Carstairs, and Didsbury, is preparing to compete against some of the best 14U teams in the country.

“Our nerves got us today…the girls got a little nervous at the start and it showed in our play,” said Perillat. 

Aaron Sluchinski's Alberta team went into the final day of Brier pool play with the hope of making the playoffs, but a loss to a Brad Gushue-skipped Canada team has ended the Airdrie curlers Brier run.

On Wednesday, Aaron Sluchinski's Alberta team claimed back-to-back wins at the 2024 Montana's Brier over Quebec and Northwest Territories.

Team Alberta, skipped by Airdrie's Aaron Sluchinski started the 2024 Montana’s Brier strong with a 8-4 win over Kevin Koe's Alberta Wildcard for their first tournament win.
