RVC Ag Tour participants will have an opportunity to tour the northeast part of the county on Aug. 31 during harvest time. The registration deadline for the event is July 14.

The deadline to register for Rocky View County’s (RVC) annual Ag Tour is Aug. 25.

The event will take place on Aug. 31, and the cost is $50 per person. This is the 36th year the Ag Tour has taken place, and, according to RVC agricultural services officer Laura Poile, the event is intended to help promote local ag businesses and bring awareness of this important industry in Rocky View County.

“Our goal is to showcase Rocky View County’s agricultural industry and promote our local farms, ranches, and agri-businesses in the County,” she explained recently to the Rocky View Weekly. “The tour provides an opportunity to experience the diverse agricultural operations throughout the County and allows farmers to network with one another on best management practices.”

Poile said the tour is open to anyone who wants to know more about agriculture in the region, and, since it will take place later in the summer than previous years, will allow those coming out to experience harvest time in the county.

“We are touring the northeast part of the county in the Irricana/Beiseker areas,” she said.

Poile said agriculture remains a longstanding and vital industry within the county, even after all these years.

“Agriculture is valued and respected in Rocky View,” she stated. “Rocky View farmers and ranchers, like all others across the world, provide an essential source of sustainable and nutritious food. They care for the land, their livestock and crops to help feed the world. It is vital to the County’s social, economic and ecological integrity.
