The Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra (RMSO) is gearing up for their final performance of the season this month.

Their final show, Big & Bold, on May 11 will feature the Overture to Die Fledermaus, Brahms Symphony #1, and Paul Creston's Fantasy for Trombone & Orchestra.

The award-winning trombonist and euphophonist, Dylan Martin is one of the musicians that make up the RMSO.

According to the RMSO, Martin has performed extensively on three continents, winning the coveted Drum Corps International Performers' Showcase in 2014 as a member of the world-famous Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps, the same year the corps won the DCI World Championship title with a score of 99.65, the highest score ever recorded.

In addition to performing as RMSO's Principal Trombone, Martin also performs locally with various trombone and tuba quartets, the Calgary Jazz Orchestra, Alberta Winds, and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

RMSO is confident the performance of Creston's Fantasy will mark its Calgary premiere.

"Paul Creston's music has been called brash, vital, spontaneous, intense, and flambouyant," stated the RMSO. "The Fantasy, op 42, written in 1947, is all of these. Long, lush, motivically generated melodies combine with driving rhythmic sections and lush harmony in this work."

The RMSO will first perform on Friday, May 10 at the Bearspaw Lifestyle Centre. The final concert takes place on RMSO's home stage at the Polaris Theatre on May 11. Tickets can be found online at rockymountainsymphony.ca.
