Due to dry and windy conditions, Rocky View County (RVC) has upgraded its fire advisory to an official ban.

According to a post on rockyview.ca, the County's fire ban prohibits permit burning and suspends all outstanding fireworks permits until further notice.

Prohibited burning includes incinerators for farm and acreage use, burning barrels, recreational campfires, chimeneas and fires contained within approved facilities in designated camping or recreational areas.

Exceptions to the fire ban include internal household fireplaces, camp stoves that are properly attended, propane or natural gas barbecues and fire pits, and solid fuel barbecues that use charcoal briquettes. Wood pellet grills are also permitted, and oil well flaring is allowed when properly registered – to register, call 403-264-1022.

Any person who ignites, fuels, supervises, maintains or permits an outdoor fire within the municipal boundaries of RVC during a fire ban can be fined $1,000, according to the County.

"Should the fire get out of control and emergency fire response is required, the person responsible for the fire can be charged the full firefighting costs," its post read.

According to RVC, residents can find out when a fire ban or advisory has been declared through the Alberta Fire Bans website, the County’s Fire Ban Information Line at 403-520-6310, the Safe & Sound program, or at rockyview.ca.
