Crossfield tables invitation to be featured on history podcast

Crossfield Town council has tabled an invitation to be featured on a sponsored Canadian history podcast until staff can provide more information about the show.

Edmonton-based journalist Craig Baird hosts the Canadian History Ehx podcast, which covers multiple aspects of Canadian history. The podcast averages between 1,500 and 2,000 downloads a day, according to Baird's website.

“He started a new series of podcasts that will center on the history of small towns in the prairies – from the people who founded the community to the notable names and events in that community’s history,” said Mayor Jo Tennant at the July 7 council meeting.

According to a post on rycroft.ca, each episode includes a recap of the town’s history and things to do in the area, as well as interviews with the mayor and notable citizens. To be featured on the podcast, municipalities pay a one-time $250 fee.

While council seemed enthusiastic, they ultimately opted to postpone accepting the invitation until they learn more about the podcast.

“It sounds really good, but I’d have to talk to the history guy we have over there to see if it’s worth it,” said Coun. Glenn Price, who added he was unfamiliar with podcasts.
