The Cochrane Cobras didnít show any signs of rust during a 101-55 win over the Chargers at Bert Church High School in Airdrie, Jan. 14.

Despite no longer being division rivals in the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL), the Cochrane Generals and the Airdrie Thunder still play an intense brand of hockey when the two teams meet.

The Bert Church Chargers varsity boys’ basketball team knew it was going to be a tough 36 hours, with games against the Chestermere Lakers, ranked No. 1 in the province, and the Cochrane Cobras.

The Airdrie Thunder has its eight-game unbeaten streak snapped with a pair of losses last weekend. With a 5-4 loss to the Red Deer Vipers, at the Ron Ebbesen Arena, Jan.

The Airdrie Xtreme has found its spark since the calendar hit the year 2012. The team has earned points in three of four games this year, including a 2-2 tie against the Calgary Bronks, Jan. 14, and a 7-3 win over the Spruce Grove Saints, Jan. 15.

Despite only being introduced to the sport last June, a 12-year-old Airdrie biathlete has already posted a significant result. Thomas Hulsman captured the silver medal in the Dev. 1 .

The Chestermere Lady Lakers used a 27-point fourth quarter effort to defeat the Bert Church Chargers 64-53, Jan. 12 at Chestermere High School, and earn its first win of the Rocky View Sports Association season.

Airdrie’s Courtney Missikewitz and her rink didn’t have the bonspiel they were looking for at the Medicine Hat Curling Club last weekend. The team finished with a 3W-4L record at the Junior Ladies Provincials in Alberta’s Gas City, Jan. 11 to 15.

I would personally like to thank the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League, as well as the Airdrie Xtreme, for not scheduling any regular season games for this Sunday afternoon. The NFL’s AFC and NFC Championship games are both on Jan.
