Chestermere and area residents will have an opportunity to meet Wildrose leader Danielle Smith and local candidate and town councillor Heather Davies, Aug. 3.

That’s the day Smith has set aside to visit the town as part of her 22-day provincial tour, which kicked off July 20 in Red Deer.

“I am very excited for the community to meet Danielle,” said Davies, who has served on Chestermere’s town council for about 10 years. “It is an opportunity to speak to the leader of the Wildrose party… to share some interests and concerns, and to learn about the policies and the future of the party.”

The day will kick off with a tour of some of the town’s unique amenities, and Davies and Smith will visit a number of businesses and groups within the community. The day will include a boat tour of the lake and a visit to the Prince of Peace Care Centre.

Residents will be given an opportunity to meet the leader at Tim Hortons between 4 and 5 p.m.

The day will end with a wine-tasting event, which is open to anyone interested in helping fund the upcoming Wildrose campaign. Space is limited to about 100 people for the event, so anyone interested is asked to contact Davies at 403-272-6361.

Since Davies announced her candidacy on March 11, she has listened as a number of residents shared their frustration with the current provincial government.

“The PC government has been in power for so long, and I really feel that we really need to find our way back to listen to grassroots constituents, and that is not being done,” she said. “That’s what I am hearing.”

Davies is excited about the future of the party and its policies.

“(Smith) is a dynamic individual and I thinks she would be a great (premier),” said Davies.
