A Telus tower is coming to Springbank to handle increased wireless traffic.
Representatives from the telecommunications company were invited by area Councillor Kim Magnuson to speak about the proposed tower during a community meeting in Springbank, Oct. 25
“Because more and more people are using devices that attach to the Internet, we have identified a need for a tower,” said Chris Gerritsen, media relations with Telus for Alberta.
He said plans are still in the early stages and couldn’t say when the construction might begin.
“Engineering is involved, there’s different elements that need to be considered before construction can begin. I can’t say how long exactly, it will depend on how quickly all of the pieces fall into place,” said Gerritsen.
Magnuson said she invited representatives to come to the community meeting last month to ask them to speak because only 100 people in the area were notified of the tower.
“As far as reception issues, I heard people say that they live in a dip and don’t have any problems,” she said. “But it’s sheer number of people and devices that causes (delivery) to slow down. So a new tower will solve that.”
She said people asked a number of questions at the meeting for about 45 minutes. Questions ranged from possible colours to how large the structure would be.
Gerritsen said it’s too early to know all of these details but more information should become available in the coming months, including a site location.
