Suspects kidnap Airdrie No Frills employee

An employee at the Airdrie No Frills grocery store was kidnapped by two men before closing the store on Nov. 6 and was released without harm a half-hour later.

An employee at the Airdrie No Frills grocery store was kidnapped by two men before closing the store on Nov. 6 and was released without harm a half-hour later.

During the incident the men broke into the grocery store’s safe and stole more that $5,000 in cash.

Airdrie RCMP are looking for two men approximately 5,8” to six feet tall with a slim build, darker skin, wearing a dark hooded sweat shirts and pants.

It is believed that after closing the store, the victim left the business and was apprehended by the two men while trying to enter her car.

The men then confined and transported the victim inside her vehicle. The men drove her to a discrete location for approximately 30 minutes where they made verbal threats and further demands.

Details on the demands and threats were not known as of press time.

According to RCMP, the victim didn’t report the use of a weapon in the kidnapping and was not physically harmed during this incident.

“We aren’t releasing any further information at this time,” Cst. Jennifer Morin told the Airdrie City View on Nov. 7.

Police are asking for assistance in solving this crime and identifying these suspects.

Representatives from Loblaws – the chain that owns No Frills – did not respond to information requests on the store’s closing policy before press time.

On Nov. 11 a No Frills grocery store in the southwest of Calgary was the subject of a break-and-enter where it is alleged that two men, described to be tall with darker skin, armed with weapons threatened and assaulted staff.

The two men fled the scene in a Ford F350 truck.

According to media reports, the vehicle was involved in two hit-and-run accidents while fleeing the scene on the same night.

No injuries from the hit and run have been reported.

The Airdrie City View could not confirm whether police believe the two incidents were connected.

Airdrie RCMP did not return request for further information as of press time.

The offence in Airdrie occurred between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 10:09 p.m. that evening (Nov. 6). Anyone with information on this incident are being asked to contact the Airdrie RCMP at (403) 945-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
