Three people face charges after Airdrie Rural RCMP located a stolen vehicle in the CrossIron Mills mall parking lot near Balzac and arrested the three occupants on Nov. 9.

“Member out there doing patrol thought it looked suspicious and ran the plates,” Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Jason Curtis said. “The mall closes at 9 p.m. so why would a car with three people be there at 9:40 in the evening?”

Charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance – fentanyl – is Amanda Marie Dickson, 20, of Calgary.

Sean Bernard Gentry, 34, of Kerrobert, Sask., is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Everton E. Hughes, 29, of Chestermere faces multiple charges of misuse of credit cards, five counts of unauthorized use of credit cards, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of a concealed weapon, in this case, a knife.

According to Curtis, all three suspects were initially transported to the Airdrie RCMP detachment for a bail hearing after which they were sent to the Calgary Remand Centre to await trial.

The vehicle was subsequently returned to its owner. Curtis was unsure where the vehicle had originally been stolen from.

Airdrie RCMP is reminding residents of the importance of locking their vehicles and the doors to their homes after a pair of break and enters during which thieves gained entrance via the garage.

The first break and enter occurred on Oct. 26 or Oct. 27, according to Curtis. A resident on First Avenue awoke to find the door to their garage open and a number of items stolen.

In the second instance, a resident of a home on Bayside Point called RCMP on Oct. 30 to report the home had been broken into and a number of items stolen.

The investigation revealed the homeowner had left the garage door and the door between the garage and the home open overnight.

“It’s, unfortunately, not an uncommon occurrence,” Curtis said. “We just want to continue to remind people to please lock their vehicles and bring their garage door openers inside. Unfortunately, this is an offense we’ve seen numerous times here in Airdrie. It’s a crime of opportunity. These are individuals who are going along and checking door handles.

“We have few incidences of mischief to vehicles, meaning very rarely do we actually get a call that someone’s vehicle has been damaged and broken into. It’s a very, very preventable offense.”

Airdrie RCMP is looking for a man wanted for shoplifting multiple items from the Sobey’s Liquor store on Main Street Oct. 28.

According to Curtis, the man entered the store at approximately 5:45 p.m., selected a number of items from the shelves and left without paying, getting into a dark-coloured Nissan Altima. The clerk noticed and called RCMP immediately.

Video surveillance footage was reviewed by RCMP and the man is described as being of Middle Eastern descent in his 30s with short dark hair and an average build. He is between 5’8” and 6’ tall and was wearing a gray jacket, blue jeans and dark-coloured shoes.
