Rocky Mountain Hockey Challenge postponed

Member of Parliament Blake Richards announced that the fifth annual Rocky Mountain Hockey Challenge will be postponed due to extreme flooding across Southern Alberta, June 24.

Member of Parliament Blake Richards announced that the fifth annual Rocky Mountain Hockey Challenge will be postponed due to extreme flooding across Southern Alberta, June 24.

The fifth annual charity hockey game in support of RCMP Victims Services was to be held on June 30, at the Edge School For Athletes in Springbank. Victims Services organizations resources are currently stretched as disaster response continues across the region, and they and other volunteer organizations are focusing their attention where the need is greatest.

“Given the severity of the of the flooding, which forced the evacuation of thousands of residents of our riding, destroyed homes, and significantly damaged infrastructure, we felt it was best to reschedule this year’s Rocky Mountain Hockey Challenge to later in the summer,” said Richards.

“At this point we do not know the toll this natural disaster has had on our communities. To move forward at this time would be inappropriate.”

Until the Rocky Mountain Hockey Challenge can be rescheduled, Richards’ office will continue accepting donations to support the work done by RCMP Victims Services.

The Rocky Mountain Hockey Challenge raffles, featuring a trip-for-two anywhere WestJet and Air Canada fly, will been drawn on June 30.

Organizers are currently working to arrange an alternate date for the charity game, possibly as soon as August or September.
