The Airdrie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) seized approximately $22,000 of drugs from a residence in the Big Springs neighbourhood in Airdrie on Sept. 12.
The home contained a small marijuana grow operation consisting of 13 plants and two pounds of marijuana. A quantity of cocaine and cash were also seized on site.
Christopher Kurta, a 35-year-old man from Airdrie, and Karen Pedden, a 32-year-old woman from Airdrie were arrested and are both facing criminal charges including Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Production of a Controlled Substance.
The arrests were made possible thanks to a call from a concerned resident, according to RCMP Cst. Rob Frizzell.
ìThe CRU was made aware of this by a concerned citizen,î said Frizzell. ìThrough an investigation, they were able to obtain and execute a search warrant that led to these arrests. It is a positive outcome from the community and RCMP working together.î
Both Kurta and Pedden are scheduled to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Oct. 17.
