Airdrie RCMP officers are looking for a man who robbed a liquor store on Yankee Valley Boulevard at approximately 10:30 p.m. Sept. 26.

According to Airdie RCMP Constable Jennifer Weedmark, a man entered the store, brandished a weapon and demanded cash from a store employee before fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Weedmark declined to say at which liquor store the incident took place, what kind of weapon the suspect had or how many employees were inside the store at the time.

The suspect was described as a slim Caucasian man with blonde hair and a short beard.

Weedmark said no one was hurt during the incident. She advised workers to put safety first when faced with similar situations.

“Do whatever you can to remain safe in the situation. Comply with demands if that makes the situation safer,” Weedmark said. “Try not to aggravate the situation or worsen it. Remember that your life is more valuable than any piece of property that’s being asked for.”

Vehicle collision

A 46-year-old Drumheller man is facing 11 charges following a single vehicle collision near Airdrie Sept. 22 that sent the man and a passenger to hospital.

Airdrie Rural RCMP officers received several complaints about a vehicle speeding through farmers’ fields near Highway 564 at approximately 7 p.m., followed by a call about a single vehicle collision in the same area.

According to Weedmark, when RCMP officers arrived on scene the truck had crashed into a fence.

The driver, Donald Saluhab, has been charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, five counts of possession of stolen property, three counts of possession of a controlled substance and breach of his bail conditions.

“He’s prohibited from driving because of a past conviction,” Weedmark said, adding stolen property was found inside the vehicle as well as cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.

The passenger, 35-year-old Cassie Johnson of no fixed address, has also been charged with five counts of possession of stolen property and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
