RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating two suspects who held up the One Stop Smoke Shop in Airdrie on Sept. 11.
At approximately 4:45 p.m., a male and female entered the establishment, located on MacKenzie Way in the city’s southwest, and the female threatened the clerk with a firearm.
“The clerk correctly complied with demands,” Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Jason Curtis said. “Nobody was injured, and the individuals fled in a dark grey Chevrolet.”
The vehicle, a Chevrolet HHR, is notable for being quite rare, Curtis said, and “almost resembles a PT Cruiser.”
The suspects are both described as being Caucasian and in their 20s. The male suspect is described as having a slim build, and was wearing a black ball cap with the letters “GR” on it, with orange sunglasses, a black hoodie and blue jeans.
The female suspect was described as being 5’4” to 5’6” with a stout build, wearing dark sunglasses and a black hoodie.
Curtis said the robbery is currently being investigated.
“The Airdrie General Investigation Section is currently collecting witness statements (from) anyone who knows anything about these individuals,” he said. “These individuals should be considered armed, so nobody should be approaching them, but anyone with information (should) come forward.”
Second robbery
RCMP is investigating a second armed robbery, which took place approximately 19 minutes after midnight at the Crossfield PetroCan gas station on Sept. 2.
Two suspects entered the gas station wearing masks and threatened the clerk with a firearm.
“The (clerk) handed over an amount of cash as well as cigarettes,” Curtis said, adding one suspect also threatened a customer.
The two suspects then fled the store in an unidentified vehicle. The suspects are both described as being native, 5’10”, male with thin builds. Both were wearing hoodies and “black and white ‘biker’ face coverings.” Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage.
Curtis said the clerk dealt with the incident properly.
“We just want to encourage anyone faced in a violent confrontation, take your safety into account. It’s money and cigarettes, it’s not worth (an) injury,” he said. “We just want to commend the clerk on his actions.”
If you have any information on any crime, call the Airdrie RCMP detachment at (403) 945-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
