RCMP looking for leads to solve storage locker break in

Airdrie RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance to help identify the culprit or culprits responsible for a break -in of a storage locker in a parkade at an apartment complex on Eighth Street on Jan.

Airdrie RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance to help identify the culprit or culprits responsible for a break -in of a storage locker in a parkade at an apartment complex on Eighth Street on Jan. 2, according to Media Liaison Constable Jason Curtis.

“Jan. 2 was when the individual noticed it. It was in an apartment complex on Eighth Street near the Sobey’s,” Curtis said.

“The individual noticed their locker had been broken into on Jan. 2 but they’re unsure as to when it might have occurred and they’re unsure if anything was taken,” he said. “It was very obvious the locker had been broken into. The deadbolt on the door was damaged and the door was pried back. Basically nothing of value was taken.”

According to Curtis, there was no surveillance system in the underground parkade and no witnesses, making the job of solving the crime difficult for police

“You don’t check your storage locker every day but when we can’t even pinpoint when it happened it’s definitely difficult to investigate,” he said. “The more information the public can give us the better. Even if someone believes there’s nothing we can do about it, please let us know.”

According to Owner/Broker Lorelei Talbot with Astoria Asset Management, break-ins at the buildings the company manages increased in December 2014. (See story on page 3)

She did not know if the break-in on Eighth Street was at one of their properties.

“It very well could be and they only reported it to RCMP and not to us,” she said.

If you have any information on any crime, call the Airdrie RCMP detachment at (403) 945-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
