The body of a man was discovered in a remote location near Highway 22 and Highway 8, May 5, according to Alberta RCMP Media Liaison Corporal Sharon Franks.

“Someone out in the area (found the body),” she said. “It was in a kind of wooded area.”

Cochrane RCMP responded to a call at 1:40 p.m. and a subsequent investigation by the RCMP Major Crimes Unit has determined the death was suspicious.

The body has been determined to be that of Sehyun Edmund Lim, 19, of Calgary.

“The medical examiner became involved and they do the positive identification for us,” Franks said.

She was not able to provide any information about how the positive identification was made. An autopsy was done on May 6. The cause of death has not yet been released by RCMP.

Lim was last been seen in southwest Calgary Jan. 21. According to Franks, “he was known to leave (his residence) frequently,” and was therefore not reported missing. Lim was found wearing winter clothing, including a parka and toque. He was also wearing mis-matched gloves and had been using generic brand hand warmers.

“It was mild weather later on in the day, that day, but early on in the morning it was quite cold,” Franks said. “He may have caught a lift (from Calgary to Cochrane), but we’re just not sure. We’re hoping for someone to remember having seen him or perhaps even given him a lift somewhere.

“It’s possible (he walked) but he would have been on the road a long time and someone would have seen him.”

Anyone with any information about Lim or who may have seen him between Jan. 21 and May 5 is asked to call Cochrane RCMP at 403.851.8000 or email the investigative team at [email protected]
