Cochrane RCMP was called to a Redwood Meadows home about 11 p.m., Aug. 15 after a man allegedly illegally trespassed onto a property and later took off his shirt.

A female occupant in the house first spotted the shirtless man standing on the deck. She alerted another family member who later scared the male off the property.

“The male (trespasser) was quite scared and spooked,” said Const. Francisco Ceron with Cochrane RCMP. “I don’t think he was expecting a family member being home.”

Ceron encouraged rural residents to keep their doors locked, windows closed and call 911 in such a situation. He said based on the sketch the man isn’t familiar to police, adding the family did not recognize the individual. The man is described as Caucasian, 5’8” to six feet tall with a slim build, blonde hair and no facial hair. Investigators found a sweater left at the scene. The clothing will go to an RCMP forensics lab in Winnipeg to ascertain possible DNA clues to the man’s identity.

At 5:53 a.m. on Aug. 24, Airdrie RCMP attended a vehicle fire at Range Road 274 and Township Road 260. Fire crews from Chestermere and Balzac were dispatched and were able to contain the blaze.

The vehicle, a 1999 Ford Mustang, was completely destroyed. No injuries were reported from the fire.

Initial reports have revealed the car was parked at a mechanic’s shop in Linden and stolen sometime that evening. Police continue to investigate.

The Waiprous Recreation Area was the scene of a near-deadly collision after a Jeep Cherokee rolled with two female occupants inside, Aug. 20. The two women are 27 and 21 years old.

Cochrane RCMP responded at about 7:20 p.m. on Trans Alta Road to find the vehicle badly damaged and two women badly injured. The two women, both of Calgary, were transported by ambulance to STARS Air Ambulance and then to a Calgary hospital.

The driver is in critical condition while the passenger’s injuries are listed as serious but non-life threatening.

Sometime between Aug. 19 and 21, the St. Mina Coptic Orthodox Church northeast of CrossIron Mills mall was broken into and damaged.

Vandals damaged drywall and smashed out several windows, according to RCMP. Damage is currently estimated at more than $25,000. Police don’t consider this to be a hate crime and the investigation is ongoing for mischief over $5,000.

“They went through different rooms, tipped over equipment and smashed out windows,” said Const. Robert Frizzell.

RCMP suspect multiple people were involved since large objects such as a scissor lift were tipped over.

“It would have required a couple of individuals to move the size and weight of the equipment used,” he said.

If you have information on unsolved crimes, call your local RCMP detachment or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
