Airdrie RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit discovered another marijuana grow-op, this time in the Canals neighbourhood, Oct. 4. It was the third drug bust in the past three months.

The home was found to have 435 plants totalling more than $540,000 worth of marijuana.

The bust was done in cooperation with the Calgary Police Service’s Emergency Response Team and the Airdrie RCMP’s General Duty officers.

“Due to the significant fire risk to the homes and families in the area, police decided to expedite the search as the house was drawing excessive power and was a serious fire risk,” said Const. Robert Frizzell. “No individuals were arrested during the execution of the warrant and no police or public were harmed.”

On Aug. 15, Airdrie RCMP busted a grow-op on Main Street worth $7,500 and another on Sept. 21 in King’s Heights worth $80,000.

No arrests were made in this most recent bust, however, Airdrie RCMP are encouraging the public to call its new anonymous drug tip line at 403-945-7222 with information that may lead to an arrest.

A male in a Ford Focus was reported to be driving erratically at 5:41 p.m., Oct. 14 between Airdrie and Calgary.

Witnesses said they saw the man hit a vehicle in Calgary and flee the scene. He was next spotted driving north toward Airdrie and nearly struck several other vehicles.

When Airdrie RCMP’s Integrated Traffic Unit pulled the suspect over, other drivers had also pulled over, waiting for police.

The 23-year-old driver was arrested on scene. He is charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired, refusing to provide a breath sample, mischief and two counts of breaching probation.

Airdrie Sheriff Jason Graw said the public helped end a potentially serious situation.

“There were several motorists that were nearly struck by this vehicle on Highway 2,” he said.

“Their phone calls were extremely helpful in allowing us to apprehend this individual.”

On Oct. 14, a house arrest was conducted by police in Luxstone and one man was taken into custody without incident. Police seized a loaded assault rifle and three grams of cocaine.

Twenty-year-old Jordan Lamrock of Airdrie has now been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon obtained at a crime, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and several other charges.

He appeared in Airdrie provincial court, Oct. 20.

At 3:52 p.m. on Oct. 17, Airdrie RCMP responded to a call of a teenager who was hit by a car.

A gold 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier was travelling eastbound on First Avenue at Allen Street when the driver struck the 14-year-old boy.

RCMP said the boy, who was wearing a helmet, was not paying attention and failed to stop at a stop sign as he travelled south on First Avenue.

He was transported to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary as a precaution. His injuries do not appear significant, according to RCMP.

“We’re urging cyclists and motorists to share the road,” said Const. Francine Hennelly. “Motorists need to be aware of the cars out there. Cyclists, make sure you are aware of road signs and traffic.”

No charges were laid in the accident.

If you information on any unsolved crimes, call the Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
