Police Notebook: Fire Department discovers marijuana in Chestermere

The alarm was caused by water spilled on an electrical panel. However, when fire crews cleared the home of danger, they noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the basement and told officers on scene.

RCMP arrested two females at the scene, one adult and one minor.

Minutes later, a 46-year-old male occupant of the residence returned home and was arrested after admitting it was his marijuana.

Police retrieved one pound of marijuana and small amounts of hash and oil.

The approximate value of the marijuana was $2,500.

The man was charged with possession of marijuana while the two females were released without being charged.

The Calgary Police Service made an arrest following an investigation involving an alleged Bragg Creek drug dealer.

Calgaryís Drug Unit, District 5, the Tactical Team and its Real Time Operation Centre arrested and charged a man, Feb. 2.

James Wellesley Briscoe, 21, will answer to seven offences, including trafficking LSD, MDMA and ecstasy and possessing a firearm for a dangerous purpose.

During the arrest, a small amount of ecstasy was seized from Briscoe with a street value of $2,000. Police also found a knife in the manís possession.

It is unknown if the seized ecstasy contains PMMA, the lethal drug that has been responsible for at least eight recent deaths in Alberta.

The drug is currently at the crime lab undergoing testing to determine its chemical makeup.

Two Arctic Cat snowmobiles and a silver ALUMA trailer were stolen from Nanton Avenue in Crossfield, Feb. 4.

The vehicles are a 2005 Black M5 and a 2007 Green M8.

The trailer, which had a VNOSE bumper pull, has an Airdrie Trailers logo on its side with red and silver reflective tape. The value of the snowmobiles in not known.
