Past Chamber president to represent Alberta

The manager of the Airdrie ScotiaBank and past president of the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce was named chair of the executive committee of the Alberta Chamber of Commerce (ACC) at its annual general meeting in May.

Tim Bolton will take on the position and represent the Alberta Chamber members at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting in St. John’s, N.L., in September. Bolton has been a longtime director of the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce beginning in 2003, including serving as president from 2006 to 2008.

“I am very excited to do a lot of important work advocating businesses in Alberta and ensuring Alberta’s business voices are heard,” said Bolton.

“We do have an impact and we do have a voice.”

The committee, which is composed of chamber members from across Alberta, oversees the governance of the ACC. The Alberta Chambers of Commerce represents 124 local Chambers from around Alberta.

Bolton said his responsibilities will include running regular meetings and leading forums with ministers and the premier.

“We’re pleased to have a such strong, credible Airdrie representation working on behalf of our members and businesses as a whole,” said Airdrie Chamber president Mike De Bokx.

Lorna Hunt, Airdrie Chamber of Commerce executive director, said she is thrilled with Bolton’s success.

“The Airdrie Chamber had 330 members when he was first elected to the ACC in 2008 so we were excited to have a mid-sized chamber represented at this provincial level,” she said.

Bolton said he is well suited for the position because of his longtime involvement with chambers and his experience as a banker for the past 28 years.

“I’m very proud of that,” he said.

“It is the Chamber’s job to represent its membership and business in the community and to promote business. I encourage all businesses whether they are home-based, storefront, small, medium or large to support and join the Chamber because we do have a strong voice on a provincial and national level.”

ACC’s executive committee for the 2011/12 term also includes:

• Chair elect – Tab Pollock of Grande Prairie

• First vice chair – Brad Severin of Calgary

• Second vice chair – Sean Ballard of Calgary

• Treasurer - Dom Mancuso of Red Deer

• Past chair – Kay Taylor of Medicine Hat
