Man dies in motorcycle crash

A 43-year-old Calgary man died after a single-motorcycle collision in the Cobble Flats area along Highway 66 south of Bragg Creek, June 2.

A 43-year-old Calgary man died after a single-motorcycle collision in the Cobble Flats area along Highway 66 south of Bragg Creek, June 2.

The deceased, an experienced driver, was travelling eastbound on Highway 66 behind two other motorcyclists when he went into the south ditch.

When his companions noticed the victim was no longer with them, they retraced their route and discovered the crash.

One rider stayed with the injured driver while the other drove about five kilometres to reach an area of cell phone service to call for help.

Cochrane RCMP, EMS and STARS Air Ambulance responded to the accident at around 7:30 p.m., however, the man was pronounced dead on scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and there were no witnesses.

According to police, it doesn’t appear speed or alcohol were factors in the collision. The name of the deceased will not be released.

Body discovered

The body of a Calgary man was found in a remote area near Waiparous, June 6.

On June 5, Cochrane RCMP received a complaint of an abandoned vehicle north and west of Waiparous. After investigating the scene, a search was organized on June 6 that included Fish and Wildlife, Kananaskis Emergency Services and Search and Rescue Units from Cochrane, Calgary and Foothills.

The cause of death was not known at press time. The name of the man will not be released.

Two-vehicle collision

Strathmore RCMP charged an 18-year-old man after a two-vehicle collision in Strathmore, June 5.

At around 5 p.m., officers responded to a collision after a car travelling southbound on Lakeside Boulevard ran a red light and collided with a northbound car turning left onto Highway 1. The lone occupant of the northbound car was taken to Strathmore hospital and released a short time later.

The young man from Lethbridge fled the scene on foot before police arrived, but was found hiding at a nearby business. The man has been charged with failing to remain or return immediately to the collision scene, operating a motor vehicle without a licence and failing to stop at a red light.

The RCMP investigation is continuing and additional charges are being considered.

Rollover

A man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after rolling his vehicle on Highway 1 west of Calgary, June 3.

Around midnight, Cochrane RCMP responded to the accident after the eastbound vehicle travelling on the highway rolled near Range Road 33. The eastbound lane of Highway 1 was reduced to one lane of traffic for several hours.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the collision.

The name of the driver is not being released at this time as the police continue to investigate the incident.
