A 29-year-old Airdrie man was arrested in the early morning of June 18 after attempting to break into a garage.
At 1 a.m. on June 19, Airdrie RCMP received a call of a man trying to break into a garage on Kingsbury View in the King’s Heights neighbourhood in southeast Airdrie.
RCMP officers attended the scene and quickly contained the area. With the assistance of a police dog service member, one male suspect was located trying to escape into a nearby field.
The man, will not be identified at this time, as charges not been sworn in. He was arrested for break-and-enter, theft, and breach of previous release conditions.
Further investigation has revealed that the suspect was accompanied by an accomplice who is a known organized crime gang member.
“We gathered some statements from people in the area and through that we were able to identify this accomplice,” said RCMP Cst. Jason Curtis.
“He is being investigated and we have an open dialogue with the Calgary Police Services, but no charges have been laid as of yet.”
The RCMP is reminding residents to keep their vehicles and homes locked at night and keep valuables in vehicles out of sight.
“The most important thing is that if you see anything suspicious to call the police,” said Curtis.
Rollover
At about 8:45 a.m., Airdrie RCMP, Airdrie Fire Services, and Alberta Provincial Emergency Medical Services attended a single-vehicle rollover on Sagewood Blvd.
A Ford Escape travelling northbound on Sagewood Blvd. towards First Avenue struck a parked vehicle, causing it to flip on its roof. Two occupants, one a youth, sustained minor injuries. The driver, a woman in her 30s, was charged with careless driving. Sagewood Blvd. is a 30 km/h residential street, close to two of Airdrie’s elementary schools. Investigators believe that excessive speed and driver inattention were the primary factors in the crash.
Vandalism to vehicle
Airdrie RCMP is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying the culprits responsible for vandalism to a vehicle.
The incident occurred on Kings Heights Drive by the show homes.
On the evening of June 2 into the early morning of June 3, extensive damage was done to a vehicle that had been left in the area overnight.
The RCMP is attempting to obtain surveillance videos from the showhomes and to obtain statements from potential witnesses.
Counterfeit money scam
The Airdrie RCMP is seeking assistance in identifying a pair of suspects involved in a counterfeit money scam.
The two men have been obtaining funds by getting change for counterfeit $100 American bills.
The men speak quickly and distract the staff as they request change for the counterfeit bills. One man is described as approximately 5’8” with light blonde hair, the second suspect is described as tall and slim with shorter hair and was wearing glasses.
