Two men from Sylvan Lake have been arrested and charged with numerous offenses after Airdrie RCMP, Sylvan Lake RCMP and the Airdrie RCMP General Investigation Section executed a search warrant at a residence in that town on April 25.
Officers recovered a number of iPads and MacBook Air computers as a result of the search warrant. The items had been stolen from Airdrie’s C.W. Perry School on March 20, according to Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Jason Curtis.
“(They) recovered three MacBook Air laptops and 27 iPad Minis,” Curtis said.
“It’s very good news. They were undamaged for the most part.”
An additional five MacBook Air laptops and eight iPad Minis were later recovered from an undisclosed location, according to Curtis.
The students at C.W. Perry School in Sagewood were without more than 100 iPads and six MacBook Air laptop computers after the school was broken into early on the morning of March 20. Thieves entered the school by breaking a window, according to Constable Jennifer Weedmark.
Charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000 is Michael James Mieske, 19. Anthony Chad Carter, 18, has been charged with break and enter and possession of stolen property over $5,000. The items were found in Mieske’s possession, according to Curtis.
Mieske has also been charged with trafficking a controlled substance (MDMA, also known as ecstasy), possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), and possession of a prohibited weapon. He will appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on May 14.
Carter will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on May 21 to enter a plea on the break and enter charge and in Red Deer Provincial Court on June 5 to enter a plea on the possession of stolen property charge.
“We’re dealing with multiple jurisdictions,” Curtis said.
Curtis was not able to release information regarding how RCMP in Airdrie came to be involved in the execution of the search warrant in Sylvan Lake because this information is part of an ongoing investigation.
