A newborn baby boy was killed by a bite from a family husky in Airdrie, Feb. 15.
No names and few details were released at an RCMP press conference the next day.
Airdrie RCMP, EMS and bylaw services attended the home in Kingsland. The baby was rushed the Alberta Children’s Hospital, but died at 10:30 p.m.
It is unclear how many other people were in the home, where the attack took place or how many bites the boy may have endured.
The dog, whose age and gender are unknown, has been quarantined at an undisclosed location, according to a city official.
There are no charges pending regarding the incident, according to RCMP.
“Unfortunately its just a very tragic accident,” said RCMP Insp. Tony Hamori at a press conference. “We do not feel there is anything criminal in nature.”
“We do not know what is going to happen to the animal because it’s under investigation,” said Darryl Poburan, manager of municipal enforcement with the City.
There family has a second child, about two-and-a-half years old, according to RCMP. Hamori said there’s no reason to express concern regarding the dog attack.
“It seems to be very isolated,” he said, adding families should remain vigilant with their pets.
