Human remains were found in a ditch by a work crew near Range Road 285 and Township Road 264, east of Airdrie at approximately 4 p.m. on May 4, according to the RCMP.
Airdrie RCMP responded and secured the area. After consulting with Calgary Police Services (CPS), investigators said they believed the body may be that of a young woman missing from Calgary since March.
The investigation has been turned over to CPS, according to a release issued by Airdrie RCMP on May 5.
The body was moved to the Calgary Medical Examiners office on May 4 and an autopsy took place on May 5 to help determine the identity of the victim.
In a release issued on May 5, CPS said the investigation was ongoing and no further information would be released until that investigation was completed.
