On Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m., the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit was called out to a serious collision in the southbound lanes of Highway 2 just north of Airdrie.
The driver of a Ford F-150 that lost control and the vehicle rolled three times into the centre median.
Driven by a 51-year-old woman from Olds, the single-vehicle accident resulted in the driver having to be airlifted to hospital in Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance.
Currently in critical condition, it is believed the woman may have been suffering from a previous medical condition that could have contributed to the crash.
A forensic collision analyst who investigated the scene, believes the driver’s use of a seatbelt is what saved her life.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 2 had to be closed at the time of the accident in order to allow STARS to land.
A full investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway, but it is not believed roads conditions contributed to the collision.
