Genesis pool closing for repairs in mid-August

Airdrie residents will need to look elsewhere to beat the heat as the city’s only pool is set to close for three weeks of maintenance in mid-August.

Airdrie residents will soon need to look elsewhere to beat the heat, as the city’s only pool is set to close for three weeks of maintenance in mid-August.

On Aug. 18, Genesis Place Recreation Centre will be closing its aquatic centre for three weeks as City staff begin biennial routine maintenance. The pool is expected to re-open on Sept. 9.

According to a City of Airdrie press release, the timing for the upcoming works is because the pool sees lower attendance during this time of the year. Closing it in the summer provides the City an opportunity to keep up with required maintenance without impacting a high number of users.

The closure will see several required maintenance operations take place, according to the City’s release. This includes tile repair, drain repairs, replacing filters, installing a new domestic hot water storage tank, changing out water softeners, replacing the motor control centre for pool pumps, and the installation of new pool chemical controllers.

Those who hold a continuous pass to the facility will have the option of temporarily pausing their membership pass for the three-week maintenance period. However, those who wish to pause will not be able to access any part of the facility during that time.

Any passes put on pause will automatically restart Sept. 9, when the pool is expected to re-open.

The City said the required maintenance is important in keeping the pool healthy so that it can continue to be used in the future.
