Fire investigators are looking for clues as to what sparked a fire in a garage on a rural property in Cochrane March 7.
The garage was completely ablaze when Cochrane Fire Services responded to the scene at about 8:30 p.m.
The structure is located on an acreage along Rolling Range Drive.
“It’s always a struggle when you pull up and the structure is fully involved,” said Captain Jory Jenson, noting there were no hydrants in the area.
“But the crew did an excellent knockdown from the water we had on board, along with aid from the Springbank tender.”
The garage, which was used as a shop, was lost, but crews managed to keep flames away from the home, which was located a short distance away.
Lieutenant Investigator Jeff Avery said it’s believed the blaze was sparked by embers from the wood-burning stove located inside the shop.
In addition to the garage, investigation continues into what sparked a fire in the cab of a semi-truck in the early morning hours that same day.
A passing cab driver reported the fire, which occurred in a leased bay on Fisher Avenue in Cochrane.
Jenson said there was black smoke billowing out of the building when crews arrived.
Firefighters forced their way into the building and were met with flames and smoke.
Only after opening the bay door could crews see that the cab of a semi-truck was burning.
“The incident could have been much worse,” said Jenson.
“Damage to the building itself was minimal — just heat and smoke damage. But the one truck was a total loss.”
Investigators are still looking into what started the vehicle fire, said Jenson.
