Jim Hassett of Hassett & Reid LLP has been named the recipient of the 2013 Airdrie Business Leader Award presented by the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce.

This is the fourth year for this award, which is part of the Airdrie Business Awards program.

ìThe nomination we received described Jim as a quiet super-hero when it comes to supporting Airdrie and we agree,î said Lorna Hunt, executive director of the Airdrie Chamber and member of the selection committee.

Hassett was the major partner holding 50 per cent interest in Warnock, Rathgeber & Hassett for seven years before branching out on his own with Kristen Reid to form Hassett & Reid LLP.

Their grand opening at their new office was held January 4, 2011 and the firm has steadily grown from six employees to 11.

Hassettís passion for the Airdrie business community was evident many years ago when he first started teaching business classes ìHow to start and manage your own businessî through Rocky View Adult Education.

Last year, he joined Airdrie Economic Developmentís ìAsk an Expertî program and is a founding member and chairman of the board of Airdrie Housing Limited.

ìI was not surprised when I learned that Jim donates legal services to many non-profits.î said Hunt.

When Hassett was told that the Chamber had chosen him as Airdrieís Business Leader he said. ìI am speechless. There are so many great leaders in Airdrie.î

ìNominations opened on June 1 and we received a total of 142 nominations for 58 different businesses, by far the most nominations ever received.

Our selection committees had a tall task at hand selecting the finalists with so many quality nominees this year.

ìAll nominees should be very proud of their nomination and we wish them all continued success.î

Finalists for these awards were chosen based on a number of criteria and all submissions were reviewed by selection committees.

Winners will be announced at the Airdrie Business Awards Gala on Oct. 26 at the Woodside Golf Course, during Small Business Week (which runs from Oct. 20 to 26).

The gala will be a celebration of all our local small businesses and of course a fantastic time to honour the nominees and the finalists.
