A mobile home burned to the ground between Madden and Airdrie, April 23.

The house, located on land just off of Symons Valley Road and Highway 567, was fully engulfed in flames when Rocky View Fire Services received the call at about 10:30 a.m.

“A neighbour noticed black smoke coming from the building and by the time we arrived, the building was fully involved,” said Rocky View Fire Services District Chief Dax Huba.

Fire crews from Madden, Balzac and Crossfield attended the fire with about 10 firefighters on scene. The fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes but the house was burned to the ground.

Huba said the cause of the fire and estimated cost of damage is unknown at this time.

“Fire happens so it is important to make sure your insurance policy is up to date and correct,” he said.

“Possessions can be replaced, lives cannot so make sure all your fire alarms are in working order and that you have an emergency escape plan that you review with your family.”

Airdrie Fire Department responded to a grass fire north of Airdrie at about 1:30 p.m. on May 2.

According to a City press release, the fire was on a rural property with two homes and numerous out buildings that were vulnerable due to the rapidly moving fire. Firefighters quickly attacked the leading edge of the fire protecting all structures from any possible damage. Approximately two acres of grassland were scorched by the blaze.

Five pieces of apparatus and nine firefighters were on scene for approximately three hours. No one was injured in the fire.

A spark from a power tool, used to cut metal, is believed to be the cause of the blaze.

Until conditions improve a Level ll fire ban remains in effect for the city of Airdrie and Rocky View County.
