Campground

The Town received a letter from the Sundowners RV Club, which had stayed in the campground on the Mother’s Day weekend. “We would like to commend you on your choice of Ron and Sheila as new campground hosts. (They are a) fantastic couple, who are genuinely interested in making the campground a thing of beauty again and show pride in their workmanship. Thank you so much.”

Council’s report

Councillor Larry Martin attended the Disaster Forum on May 8 to 10 in Banff. Retired General Rick Hiller was one of the speakers. Martin reported he learned about the Slave Lake wildfire and about the tornado that hit Goderich, Ont. in August on 2011. The presentation also featured a portion on integrating social media into emergency management programs and how crisis mapping is becoming a very useful tool in disaster management. A mock disaster was also held at the recreation centre.

Tax auction

A tax auction will be held on Sept. 21 for Lot 25, Block 19, Plan 9312038. Administration will determine if Wild Rose Assessments will charge the Town extra for appraising the property before the sale. If so, administration will look at using a realtor for assessment purposes. The reserve bid will be set 25 per cent below the assessed value.

Pitch In

A report from Cathy O’Donoghue, community services officer, said the 2012 annual Pitch In event was a great success with 82 community volunteers participating. The result was more than 50 bags of garbage cleaned off of streets and parks.

The next meeting of Irricana council is June 18 at 7 p.m. in council chambers. The public is welcome.
