An early morning theft at a rural property on Township Road 265 southwest of Airdrie is being investigated by Airdrie Rural RCMP, according to Media Liason Constable Francine Hennelly. One of the stolen items is a classic 1964 Chevrolet pickup truck.
“A witness reports seeing multiple suspects attending the rural property. They were observed entering the detached garage and then stealing numerous items from within and loading them onto their flat-deck trailer,” she said. “As the truck and trailer drove away, the witness observed another suspect leaving the property in that stolen Chevy truck.
“This obviously means a lot to the owner so it would be great if we could reconnect the owner of the truck back to his own property.”
The value of the stolen items is more than $5,000, according to Hennelly. Along with the pickup truck, the stolen items include various tools, a welder and a 2006 Polaris all-terrain vehicle.
“It was multiple suspects. (We know there was) one to drive the first vehicle and one to drive the second vehicle,” Hennelly said. “There may have been more (suspects).”
The vehicle used in the break and enter is a dark coloured pickup truck towing a flat-deck trailer.
Charge Laid
The owner of a pit bull who attacked and killed an Australian shepherd in Stonegate Dec. 11, 2015 has been charged, according to Lynn MacKenzie, leader of Municipal Enforcement for the City of Airdrie.
“It was for a dog bite and it was a provincial charge,” she said. “We went (that route) and it’s the judge who determines the fine, the punishment.”
A three-year-old Australian shepherd named Angel belonging to the family of Bonnie Baldwin was attacked after the pit bull broke through a wooden fence and into the Baldwin’s yard on Stonegate Crescent.
Both dogs died as a result of injuries sustained in the incident.
House Fail
A house being moved to a new location caused major delays on Highway 566 in Balzac on Feb. 17, according to Hennelly.
“At approximately 4:10 p.m. on Feb. 17, a building mover transporting a house was attempting to cross the railway tracks at Highway 566. The house moving dolly caught on the tracks and at least seven tires and rims were damaged and required replacement,” she said.
“Commercial Vehicle Enforcement attended along with members from the RCMP. They did close down Highway 566 in both directions until after 9 a.m. on Feb. 18.”
A tire company was also at the scene to replace the tires and get the 40-foot wide house moving again.
