Representatives and players from the Airdrie Minor Hockey Association (AMHA) came to the Airdrie City council meeting on Dec. 1 to present a cheque for more than $71,000 as part of their contribution to the building of the new twin arenas at the Genesis Place Recreation Centre.
According to Director of Community Services Michelle Lock, primary user groups are charged with fundraising five per cent of the total building cost when new facilities are built. The AMHA as the primary user of the new twin arenas is required to raise $469,000. With the cheque presented on Dec. 1, the organization has now raised a total of $254,000.
AMHA President Chris McGinnis said payments will also be made in 2015, 2016 and 2017 to fulfill their commitment.
Bylaw amendments
Airdrie City council unanimously approved changes to the Emergency Management Bylaw on Dec. 1 to change some of the outdated terminology that Emergency Management Coordinator Lorri Laface said could be confusing to anyone reading the document.
The approved modifications included changing “Corporate Planning Team” to “Senior Leadership Team”, (which is now made up of only the Chief Administrative Officer and City Directors), and changing “Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)” to “Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC)”.
