A Chestermere man was arrested and charged with trafficking methamphetamine, following an investigation by the Calgary Police Service.

Members of the Chestermere RCMP Detachment working with the Guns and Gang Unit of the Calgary Police Service executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a Chestermere residence in the Rainbow Falls Lane area in the last week of September.

Police are keeping the exact date of the search warrant under wraps in an effort to protect the innocent, according to Chestermere RCMP Staff Sgt. Glenn Henry.

“It’s for the same reason as we don’t give the exact address of the house,” said Henry. “It’s to protect the innocent people in the house.”

The search warrant was put together by the Calgary Police Service based upon its investigation into suspicious drug activities in Calgary.

The Calgary Police Service investigation confirmed that the primary suspect resided in Chestermere.

Calgary Police consulted with Chestermere RCMP and plans were put in place to work together based on local public safety concerns.

A CDSA search warrant was executed just after midnight resulting in the arrest of the suspect without incident. No illegal drugs were located inside the residence but substantial Canadian currency and links to other locations that were used to store methamphetamine were found.

Hung “Tony” Binh Thai, a 29-year-old resident of Chestermere has been charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

At the time of the warrant execution family members were present and for their safety, were escorted to alternate locations.

There have been numerous past situations where the Calgary Police Service investigate criminal activities in Calgary and link those responsible living in Chestermere, according to Henry.

“Calgary Police will identify these targets and they will alert us (Chestermere RCMP) to them,” said Henry.

“These people don’t do criminal activity in their own backyard.”

Henry also spoke to the valuable partnership that the Chestermere RCMP has with the Calgary Police Service.

“I’m so pleased with the Calgary Police Service,” said Henry.

“They are able to notify us of things we may not know our residents are doing. We’re more than happy to work together with Calgary (Police), whether it’s in Calgary or Chestermere, we want to work to make both communities safer.”
