Chestermere RCMP are asking for the assistance of the public after a dumpster fire on July 12 in a townhouse complex at 371 Marina Drive.

There were two dumpsters located in an open but covered structure and one was set on fire. The structure that houses the dumpsters sustained some fire damage as well.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but Chestermere RCMP are leaning towards mischief by children as witnesses have stated they observed some youths on bicycles in the area shortly before the fire was started.

“There are a number of ways to determine how a fire was started,” said Chestermere RCMP Sgt. Glenn Henry. “We can sweep for fingerprints or identify different types of accelerants but in this case the most powerful resource we have is word-of-mouth and eye witnesses.”

If you have information on any unsolved crime, call your local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
