A 53-year-old man from Carstairs has died in a Calgary hospital from the injuries he sustained May 5 in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9 and Range Road 567, according to a release issued by Beiseker RCMP Sergeant Glen Demmon.

Beiseker and Strathmore RCMP responded to the scene at 1:50 p.m. According to Demmon, a car travelling northbound on Highway 9 turned west onto Range Road 567 colliding with a southbound pickup truck in the intersection.

The driver of the car required extrication from his vehicle and was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance in life-threatening condition. Demmon said the man succumbed to his injuries later that evening. RCMP will not be releasing his name.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, according to Demmon.

The Langdon and Balzac fire departments assisted RCMP at the scene. The investigation was aided by the arrival of an RCMP collision analyst from Calgary.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Traffic was disrupted for a short time while the investigation was completed, according to Demmon.

A two-vehicle collision May 9 at Springbank Road and Range Road 31 resulted in one person being taken to a Calgary hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to Cochrane RCMP Sergeant Darleen White.

“I don’t think she had any major injuries, it was just precautionary,” she said.

According to White, the collision occurred at approximately 6 p.m. when the female driver of a northbound vehicle on Range Road 31 failed to stop at a stop sign at Springbank Road, entered the intersection and collided with a westbound vehicle.

The passenger transported to hospital was in the northbound vehicle. The driver of that vehicle as well as all occupants of the other vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the collision, according to White.

“The driver of the northbound vehicle from Calgary has been charged for failing to comply with a traffic control device, under the Alberta Traffic Safety Act,” she said.

Traffic on Springbank Road was disrupted for approximately an hour and a half.
