The Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) responded to a vehicle fire at 300 Veteran’s Blvd. around noon on May 24.
The vehicle was in the Tim Horton’s parking lot when AFD crews arrived, they discovered smoke coming from the hood of the older model sedan, and flames from the grill.
There were two occupants that had exited the vehicle, an adult male and his daughter, neither sustained any injuries.
Crews fought the fire with water and foam, spraying underneath the front end of the car, before opening the hood to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished.
“It’s a very busy parking lot and one of the most important things was to ensure that the fire didn’t spread to any other vehicles,” said Deputy Chief Garth Rabel, AFD.
“Our guys were able to get the fire under control and extinguished pretty quickly.”
The fire remains under investigation, but Rabel said that foul play is not suspected and the fire didn’t appear to be suspicious in nature.
It has been a fairly quiet season for the AFD according to Rabel.
“Thankfully it’s been pretty low key so far,” he said.
“We’ve been busy but nothing too over the top, we’ve had our typical calls for multi-vehicle collisions, but as far as fires it’s been pretty quiet.”
