The search for an Airdrie man missing in Montana has ended in tragedy. The family of 37-year-old Cameron Collin confirmed the body of their loved one was recovered by the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office Nov. 3 from a creek near Billings, Mont. In an email to Airdrie City View, the family said, “[Collin] was always our super athlete throughout school years and college, playing volleyball at the national level. The SAIT Trojans won silver that year in the Canadian championships. It was with huge pride that we watched our volleyball spiker walk across the stage at Montana Tech, Butte, Mont. with a university degree [as a] petroleum engineer.” Collin was reported missing after failing to attend the Oct. 6 wedding of a university roommate. He had not been seen since attending a bachelor party at a private property outside of Billings Oct. 4. Collin’s sister, Julia, said the other men at the party decided to head into Billings to go a bar at approximately 10 p.m., leaving Collin behind. Julia said she was told those attending the party assumed her brother had fallen asleep, taken a taxi into Billings or decided to make the approximately one-hour journey by foot. His family and local law enforcement spearheaded the ensuing search, once Collin was reported missing Oct. 7 by the wedding party. In a statement issued by the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office Nov. 3, officials said there was no evidence of foul play in the death. An autopsy was done Nov. 5 to determine the cause of death; however, results were not known by press time. The Collin family said they wished to thank all of the individuals and groups that prayed for Collin’s safe return. A memorial service is planned for Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at Airdrie United Church, followed by a wake at the Town and Country Centre later in the evening. Donations in Collin’s name may be made to the general fund at the Airdrie United Church.
