The Village of Beiseker welcomed its new RCMP sergeant to town, June 24.

Sgt. Glen Demmon will be heading up the local RCMP detachment.

Along with his appointment, came welcome news, that the local detachment will soon be a separate identity from Airdrie.

The detachment has four constables and one sergeant, and it is anticipated to remain at the same staffing level. Local RCMP will now be able to focus its efforts on traffic and enforcement issues in Beiseker, according to Demmon.

Drainage maintenance.

Mayor Ray Courtman raised concerns over the maintenance of the village’s ditches.

He said if the areas were maintained, the flooding of Main Street in Beiseker from July 6 massive thunderstorm – that also caused major flooding and property damage in Irricana – would have been less.

Courtman argued that the ditches were overgrown with tall grass and bushes, which reduce the rate that the flood water can escape town.

The action was passed to the Village of Beiseker’s public works department and is expected to be addressed in the coming weeks.

Pot hole concerns

Councillor Karen Ursu and Deputy Mayor Al Henuset raised constituents’ concerns over pot holes that have yet to be filled in.

All councillors agreed the issue will be remedied as soon as public works has time.

A representative from public works was not present, nor was their expected report presented at council.

A full schedule for the public works department was to blame for the absence.

No repercussions were taken and council is expected to address the concerns with public works.
