On May 1 at about 3:15 p.m., Cochrane RCMP, Rockyview Fire Services and EMS responded to a plane crash near the entrance to Calaway Park in Springbank.

The 39-year-old male pilot of the plane was taken by ground ambulance to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary in serious, potentially life-threatening condition with multiple traumatic injuries.

Media reports claim the impact of the crash tore the aircraft’s engine from the fuselage and mangled the body of the plane. Fire crews sprayed a retardant on the wreckage as a precautionary measure.

The pilot was the only person inside at the time of the crash, according to police.

The Transportation Safety Board has been advised and are investigating the crash with the assistance of the RCMP.

If you have any information on any crime or incident, call your local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
