Ladies Out Loud is on the search for the next group of community members who want to take on The Vagina Monologues in February.

The production is part of V-Day – the global activist movement to end violence against all women and girls – celebrations in Airdrie and benefits Community Links and Airdrie and District Victims Assistance Society.

Described by the New York Times as "probably the most important piece of political theater of the last decade," The Vagina Monologues is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women.

"With humour and grace, the piece celebrates women's sexuality and strength," the Ladies Out Loud website states.

The play is comprised of raw stories from real women and covers a range of topics. From monologues about abuse to a "serio-comic consideration of pubic hair," the production aims to give "voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public" and bring "a deeper consciousness to the conversation around ending violence against women and girls."

In Airdrie, The Vagina Monologues has been preformed at four V-Day celebrations, each iteration with a new cast comprised of local women who are not trained actors.

This year's auditions will be held Oct. 17 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 309 Allen St. N.E. No acting experience is required and those interested can sign up at ladiesoutloud.ca/vday-airdrie or by emailing [email protected]
