It’s that time of year when we here at Airdrie Public Library (APL) look back at what caught the fancy of Airdrie’s many prolific adult readers.

We’re focusing on the top 10 in adult fiction because the youth really only love one thing, Captain Underpants.

Fortunately, their parents are a little more discerning when it comes to their choice of fiction.

Coming in at number 10, is Nicholas Sparks’ poignant love story about risking everything, Dreamland.

Nine is David Baldacci’s twisting psychological thriller, Simply Lies.

Eight is Jojo Moyes story of mix-ups, mess-ups and making the most of second chances, Someone Else’s Shoes.

Emily Henry’s Happy Place, a book that makes you laugh, cry, contemplate your happiness in life, holds seventh spot.

Sixth goes to Michael Connelly’s Desert Star, where LAPD detective Renée Ballard and Harry Bosch hunt a killer.

Middle of pack goes to Jodi Picoult’s soul-stirring novel about what we choose to keep from our past, and what we choose to leave behind, Mad Honey.

Fourth belongs to Louise Penny and her eight Chief Inspector Armand Gamache novel, A World of Curiosities.

Third place is filled by the always entertaining Lee Child and his no nonsense character Jack Reacher in No Plan B.

Second goes to Colleen Hover’s Heart Bones, the story of a girl struggling for the most basic human needs.

Lastly, the most read book by Airdronians was Colleen Hoover’s It Starts With Us.

This novel is the sequel to her 2016 best-selling novel It Ends with Us.

It Starts With Us was first announced in Feb. 2022, and became Simon & Schuster's most pre-ordered book of all time.

Apparently, APL’s adult patrons agree, making it the most read fiction book of 2023 at APL.
