Local volunteer groups hosted the third annual Pirate And Princess Gala on Feb. 12 at the Town and Country Centre. Funds raised from a raffle, silent auction, and door prizes were contributed to The Sober Friends Society and Volunteer Airdrie Society.

The event consisted of buffet-style grub thanks to The "Souper" Lady Kim Ford, including sandwiches, canapes, desserts and snacks; make-up art courtesy of Amandaamazing Makeup Art; pirates and princesses in fairy tale garb; and games and activities for children.

The event also included a short play put on by a group of actors directed by Karalee Braun from Airdrie's own Nose Creek Players, a magic performance by Ryan Jade, and musical entertainment by DJ Sheldon Ancion.

Honourable mentions include gala committee members Dave Maffitt, Tina Petrow, Mike Loughman, Elle Geary, Barry Deighan, and Ruthanna Friesen, along with many other volunteers and supporters.

According to Loughman, the event was a complete success and the team is already preparing to host its fourth annual gala next year at Genesis Place.
