The Airdrie Mayor's Night of the Arts is coming back to Bert Church LIVE Theatre next February, and nominations are now open.

After a two-year COVID-caused hiatus, the Mayor’s Night of the Arts is returning to dazzle Airdronians by showcasing local artists and performers later this winter.

The annual celebration of Airdrie's arts community was held from 2015 to 2019. It was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the pandemic.

“It’s a celebration of local artists,” Mayor Peter Brown explained in a recent interview. “It’s also an opportunity to be entertained by local artists. There is always amazing food, great kinship, and I think it is just a wonderful evening to celebrate all that we are in the community.”

Tickets for the February 2023 event go on sale in December at a cost of $45 a person. The event includes plenty of entertainment and a meal, according to Brown.

“We are really excited to bring it back, and are looking forward to really sharing the talent in our community,” he said. “It’s really quite remarkable. You really get such a mix of people. I just want to thank the committee and all of our sponsors for making this possible, because it really doesn’t work without their commitment.”

Besides showcasing the abilities of Airdrie’s artists, the event is also an opportunity to put a spotlight on the entire community, explained Brown, and let Airdronians get some exposure to the reams of local talent present right here in the city.

“It’s going to be fun,” he stated. “It’s going to be great to celebrate with each other once again. We have world-class entertainers and artists in this community, or who grew up here. So it’s a real opportunity to come out and support those artists, but, more importantly, it showcases what amazing talent we have in our community.

“And if it encourages somebody who hasn't had much experience in the way of arts to participate, then that’s awesome.”

For ticket information and to nominate artists, performers, and cultural champions in the community who have shown outstanding leadership through the arts, visit amnaawards.ca or bit.ly/3TGTehk. Nominations are open until Nov. 25.

The Mayor’s Night of the Arts takes place on Feb. 11, 2023 at the Bert Church LIVE Theatre. For more information on the event, search 'Airdrie Mayor's Night of the Arts' on Facebook.
