Airdrie Public Library’s spring programming launches Monday, May 1.

Spring is a delightful time of year.

The birds perch in their nesting places, new calves frolic among mucky fields, and gardeners dust off the tools they tucked away last fall.

Here at Airdrie Public Library (APL), we’re still busy revving up for our upcoming spring session, which launches Monday, May 1.

To celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, APL is hosting A Royal Celebration for patrons aged six to 12. On Saturday, May 6, we encourage Airdrie's youth to come dressed in Royal costume between 10 a.m. and noon.

Open Mic Night returns on May 17 with five-minute slots for writers ages 16 and up to read their work at this all-genre event.

APL’s popular Paint Night Fundraiser returns on May 13 with local artist Alicia Taylor helping you achieve your own masterpiece. The cost is $40 per person and tickets can be purchased at the customer service desk.

On June 6, local artist Veronica Funk is presenting a two-hour session called Introduction to Watercolour. Materials will be provided, but there is a $5 charge, which can be paid at customer service when you register.

With an upcoming provincial election later in the month, our Coffee with the Candidates forum will be held on May 7. There, you can meet and mingle with the candidates running for the next provincial election in the two Airdrie ridings.

Our Grow a Reader Campaign runs from May 1 to 31, giving Airdronians the opportunity to help children grow into accomplished readers.

The After School @ APL programs have three new entries this session: Gaming, Crochet, and Manga.

Teens have three new one-off programs. Teen Henna will explore creating a work of art on canvass, Teen Gaming uses Dungeons & Dragons to world build and develop skills, and Teen VR will play virtual reality games.

The Senior Cribbage Tournament returns on June 10, in celebration of Seniors Week.

Finally, Makerspace has a new edition for adults called Digital Paint Night, which will be held on June 17.

To learn more about these and other APL programs, visit airdriepubliclibrary.ca or visit our location on Airdrie's Main Street near downtown.
