Library Link: shiny new programs at APL this fall

Airdrie Public Library will offer a slate of new and returning programs this fall.

While Airdrie Public Library’s (APL) programmers are on break from a busy summer schedule, we thought we’d take a sneak peek at some of our new programs coming in September.

Please note, unless otherwise stated on our website or in our fall brochure, programs will be held in the library facility, with consideration given to the ongoing health situation.

New this fall is the Crush or Gush Book Club, where teens can gather to roast or toast a book or movie they’ve recently read or watched.

Also, for the teens, we have Espionage After Dark, an evening of riddles, clues, and adventure in an escape room setting.

Also new this fall is the after-school Ancient Inventions program, where participants ages 10 and over will explore inventions that changed the way ancient peoples lived, communicated, and survived.

New for patrons ages six to eight, we have Beakers and Bookworms, which is designed to increase confidence and curiosity with a combination of storytime, reading, letter games, art, and simple science experiments.

We also have new programming for our adult patrons – we’re teaming up with Scotiabank to offer tips on how to recognize and avoid investment scams.

We’re also partnering with Parenting True for expert advice on the complexities of parenting in today’s world.

Calgary-based author Doreen Vanderstoop, will be giving a demonstration of the StoryShare Project, which is designed to connect seniors through the oral storytelling art form.

Then, for teens and adults, we have Night of the Living Reading. Transform yourself into a zombie, then meet at the library for a zombie walk, followed by an evening of games.

Of course, many of our regular programs are returning. The Makerspace and APL’s preschool programs are back, along with Senior Coffee & Conversation, Caregivers Connect, Teen Gaming, Infant Massage, APL Author Series, Pumpkin Palooza, Mighty Machines, Poetry in Motion Open Mic, and the Voice and Vision Gala 2021. We’ll shed more light on these in our upcoming Library Link submissions.

For more information on these programs, check our website at airdriepubliclibrary.ca and the fall brochure, which comes out on Aug. 23.
